In the tradition of my non-traditional classroom treats, I’m sharing the smores I will be taking to my son’s class in about an hour in honor of his birthday. Like many other schools around the nation, our school has a ban on homemade food for class parties. We could launch into a discussion about whether that is a good idea or not, but for the meantime, I seek to satisfy my need for creativity with home-ASSEMBLED goods–not baked. Last year, it was the juice box birthday robots. The kids thought those were SO cool! For my daughter’s birthday, I used donuts and twinkies to make the #10.
In keeping with his camping birthday theme, this year, I have assembled individual S’mores for the students. I designed a bag topper that reads, “Thank you for making my birthday S’MORE fun!” with my son’s signature on it.

In order to serve smores with out the campfire, I bought the Kraft stackable marshmallows. It took two marshmallows to nicely cover the standard half graham cracker and half of a Hershey’s bar. I’m not too worried about the chocolate melting. We are in Phoenix. The car ride to school is about the same as a campfire anyway, right?
I’ll let you know how the kids like them, but I’m going to venture a guess that this will be a first for them as a school treat!
And here is a sneak peek at some of the other birthday insanity going on this weekend. This year, Labor Day will truly be about a time that I labored much! 🙂

Well, they downed them pretty quickly in my son’s class. It was hot enough in Phoenix at the time, that they may have been a little melty anyway.
