A couple of weeks ago I attended the Mothers of LIGHT retreat in the mountains of eastern Arizona. I was asked to be a speaker at the retreat, and I also created a couple of tablescapes for the attendees while I was there. Today I’m sharing the set-up I did for our breakfast the first morning. We had an oatmeal bar (kind of like the one I did for our family reunion last summer). This one was put together by my new friend, Gena Mabee. She cooked the steel cut oats, provided the delicious toppings, and was very patient in letting me containerize and style them.
Since we were staying in a cabin in the woods, I wanted everything to feel really cozy! My inspiration for the table was this plaid wool blanket of my husband’s. I ended up draping it casually over the table as a sort of tablecloth. It inspired me to design plaid-edged cards to label the oatmeal and all of its’ toppings.
The snowflakes in the background were left over from the wintry tablescape I had designed for the previous night (more on that coming soon), but I liked how they went with our warm oatmeal and cozy blanket.
The guests absolutely loved their breakfast and the special touches that really helped it feel like a cozy wintry escape! Have you ever thought about using a blanket as a tablecloth? Can you see some inspiration here that might work for a Thanksgiving or Christmas display?
