I sat down today to figure out my plan for this years’ school Valentines, and realized I had never shared my printable watercolor valentines from last year! These were really fun to put together for me and for my artistic daughter.
Step 1: Print out my free printable Valentines (see below) and cut them apart.
Step 2: Use liquid watercolors to fill in the three hearts. Do not water down the paint on these. Let dry.
Step 3: Use PenBlade or other sharp knife to cut slits to hold the paintbrush.
Step 4: Write a secret message using white crayons.
Step 5: Address the Valentine and give it to your friends.
Step 6: When your friend receives their valentine, they simply need to get the paintbrush wet to use the watercolor hearts to paint over the white space and reveal your secret message.
If you are looking for other School Valentine ideas, I have lots more!

Are you still looking for inspiration for setting your Thanksgiving table? I'm feeling cozy plaid for this fall and not just for fashion. I had the opportunity to share my Thanksgiving ideas on 3TV's Your Life A to Z a few weeks ago. You'll have to watch the video to get all of the details. I am the first segment after all the intros. But here are some sneak peaks. Plaid napkins and DIY burlap cornucopias. Colored mason jars with burlap ribbon. Wood slice placecards Easy gourd centerpiece. And easy DIY marquee pallet art from a Stencil kit at Joann. I hope you feel inspired to make your Thanksgiving a little cozier this year! Disclosure: I was hired by Joann Craft and Fabric stores to shop at their stores and present a segment featuring their products on Your Life A to Z. This post is not sponsored. As always, the insanity featured is … [Read the rest of the Insanity...]
We are in the throes of assembling our latest collection of themed family costumes this week. I will not reveal them just yet but will give a few clues. As many of you know, we have a long-standing tradition of dressing up together as a family for Halloween. It is a bit of work, but we have fun with it, and it doesn't have to be as much work as you might think. It just requires a bit of creative thinking and resourcefulness (it doesn't hurt to be a bit of a pack-rat). To achieve a coordinated family look for Halloween you can try one of the following approaches: Buy it all! Shop early since less popular costumes might only be found on-line. Don't forget about shipping time. Be prepared to spend some decent money if you want decent looking costumes. On the plus side, if your budget is unlimited, there is probably an Etsy seller or Costume Shop overseas that has created your dream get-up. Sew it … [Read the rest of the Insanity...]
With Disney's new Cinderella movie on DVD, and pumpkins popping up in markets everywhere, I couldn't wait any longer to show you the over-the-top birthday party I threw for my daughter last fall inspired by that fairy tale. It may very well be the most over-the-top birthday party I have thrown to date. I told her not to expect anything so fancy ever again...at least until her sweet 16 party. While much of the party reflects the original Disney cartoon of Cinderella, we chose a non-traditional pink and gold color scheme because the party girl loves pink and her mom is enamored of the combination of pink and gold together. Also, because she has an autumn birthday, we wanted to play up the pumpkin elements in the party as much as possible. See the gallery for the tale of how it all unfolded and for all of the magical details! Party Credits: Cake: Pixy Cakes Carriage: AIRC … [Read the rest of the Insanity...]
I'm not sure why Spring Cleaning gets all of the attention. Think about it. Your children have been home all summer making messes and trudging them in and out of the house. Holidays are lurking right around the corner. Maybe you are hosting a big gathering or have company coming to stay at your house. If there is a time when your house could use some attention, it's probably right now. In the the Fall! But if you are anything like me, your Autumn calendar fills up quickly. Scrubbing the house from floor to ceiling may not be in the cards at the moment. Still, giving your home a little attention may help motivate that cleaning and organizing you have been wanting to get around to doing. Here are some ideas to get you going. If you don't have time to do this in every room, pick a zone or two to focus on. These are 5 Fall Fresheners that I am either working on now, or have already done, to get my house … [Read the rest of the Insanity...]
I know everyone makes a big deal about Cinco de Mayo, but today is actually Mexican Independence Day, on September 16. If you are looking for a reason to enjoy some delicious Mexican food (and who isn't, right?), why not cook up a simple dinner party for your family or friends? These images are from our Mexican-style Mother's Day dinner earlier this year. We enjoyed a buffet of tortillas, shredded beef and chicken, roasted peppers and mango salsa. Here are a few tips to make it easy and festive! Let someone else do the heavy lifting. The goal on Mother's Day is to keep the moms out of the kitchen, so rather than slow-cooking and shredding meat for hours, we used the Del Real meats shredded chicken and shredded beef dishes that were sent to me to try. They were delicious! And their easy preparation gave us time to focus on other fun details. 2. Like festive drinks! BSB akes a delicious pina … [Read the rest of the Insanity...]
