Homemade Christmas Gifts–Animal Hooded Towels

Is it Christmas time already? I was drinking Green Slime and saying “trick or treat” just a few hours ago! Admittedly, I was a little appalled when I walked into the home improvement store a few weeks ago, and saw a giant inflatable Grim Reaper right next to the giant inflatable Baby Jesus and Nativity scene. And here I am…posting Christmas, right next to a Halloween post (in fact, it is still Halloween for three more minutes.)

I’m posting about the handmade gifts I gave my children for Christmas last year. Why? Because if you are planning a handmade Christmas this year (or even a semi-handmade Christmas), you’d better get busy now! But mostly because Laurie at Tip Junkie told me to for her Talk to me Tuesday post. (Yes. I’m a little late!)

These hooded towels were a team project last year by my miracle worker mom and me. I had the vision and she had the skills to make them happen. We bought towels in various colors and turned them into these hooded towels. Although I don’t have a good picture of it, the ladybug is perhaps the cutest—my daughter LOVES her towel! We rounded the towel so it is more of a ladybug shape and my mom put the binding back on to give it a finished edge. I love how the antennae stick out. Tessa loves to grab on to them after she gets wrapped up in her towel!

Here is the butterfly, in my daughter’s favorite color–turquoise, spread out so you can see how it looks when it isn’t wrapped around a child.

And here is the frog wrapped around my son. You can’t see very well, but the frog has hands and feet sewn on. We made these extra big, so that they won’t grow out of them for several years. The kids really love these, and I was excited to give them something one-of-a-kind, homemade, practical, and FUN, all at the same time!
btw, mwm (miracle worker mom) makes all of her grand kids new pajamas for Christmas Eve each year. We love them, but it is becoming quite an ordeal as her posterity continues to grow. Somehow she makes them happen, all 20+! She made the jammies the kids are wearing underneath their towels.
How’s your gift list this year? Are you going homemade, store-bought, or a combo of both this year?

Wow! Those towels turned out real nice. I plan to do a combination of store-bought and home made this year. I’m not sure all that I’m going to make this year but I know I’m going to make some beautiful wool dryer balls for all of my sisters and sister-in-laws. I do need to get started on those soon. 🙂
