Alphabet Photography Artwork

Over the next while I will be sharing several posts with you that highlight ideas you might want to consider as you are doing your Christmas shopping–or better yet–writing your own list for Santa. I will identify these posts with this button, and you can search them all if you’d like!

I was excited for the opportunity to get my own Alphabet Photography artwork for my home. I knew the concept. Take a collection of photos of objects and landmarks that resemble letters and put them together to spell a word. I chose the letters, I placed the order so I thought I knew what I was getting but I wasn’t prepared for the masterpiece that showed up at my door.

First of all, I must make mention of how meticulously this art was packaged!

It felt like I was unwrapping a present. I especially loved the Thank You card that came with the package!

I just wasn’t prepared for how large my artwork would be or how beautiful the frame and matting would be. Let’s take a closer look shall we.

The frame is matted with a museum quality double mat with a V groove.

The frame I chose is 3”  of solid wood frame with a dark Chocolate finish accented with gold leaf. Not close enough for you? How’s this?

It is really beautifully done! And ordering is really quite easy and simple…unless you are me. When you go to the Alphabet Photography website, you simply type in the word you want it to create and it selects lovely images for you. You can be out of there in less than 5 mins. Unless you are me…and you discover that you can change the photos and select from dozens of options for each letter. Oh the possibilities!

I nearly went a completely different direction.

If the decor in my house were more modern, or if the wall-hanging were going to go in the loft, I would have done something like this–utilizing the colorful letters collected from vintage signage. They are so fun! And so different from the other look. You can see why I was torn. When I decided to go with the more traditional classic look, I purposely chose some of the letters that are less obvious, so people might have to look twice to see the word, and it seemed a nice nod to my love of travel. Since you have the freedom to choose the letters, you can do it however you want–obvious or not, colorful or not. That makes it a great gift for whoever you are shopping for, whatever their tastes may be.

Technically, I could give this one to my in-laws for Christmas, because they have the same last name, but I’m not sure I’m feeling that generous.

So assuming my greediness wins out, I just have to decide where to hang it permanently. (I think it looks nice on my credenza here, but this furniture is about to be moved around and I have a different plan for this space.).  Here are a couple of options I have thought of. Keep in mind it is around 4 feet wide.

Above one of the galleries (replacing the wooden sign) going up the staircase, or above the large mirror above the piano? Which one would you choose, or would you place it somewhere else entirely? Would you have gone black and white and classic, or colorful and vintage-modern? And what word would you spell? Your family name? A significant place in from your history? I just had a brilliant thought! This would be a perfect way to celebrate your Word of the Year for 2013! Have you chosen a word yet? I’d love to hear what you would do.

The perfect customized gift that includes photographs from all over the world, this is the original Alphabet Photography.
