Making Over Me: Part 3 The Icing on the Cake

I’ve shared about my 20lbs.+ weight loss transformation and my new life as a Curly Girl. Here are a couple of more fun things that have helped me put a little spring in my step.

Makeover #3: The Icing on the Cake

Before the curly hair but after a bit of weight loss, I was super excited to be invited to a makeup party put on by Painting You Pretty and Red Poppy Photography. Lindsey from Painting You Pretty was a makeup artist to the stars before she moved to Arizona. She now does makeup consultations with individuals (celebrity or not) to help them know what to do with makeup to help them look their prettiest. I would love to have a one on one consultation, but just getting to listen to her tips that night changed some of my approach to make up and the great swag from Stila definitely helped as well.

I find my makeup routine is as quick as before, but I just look more put together and feel more confident about what I am doing. Red Poppy also gave us some great pointers about how to photograph ourselves. I used to be a model. I’m not sure why selfies can still make me feel so awkward. Loved learning from her! I also loved that the whole focus of the evening was to help us celebrate who we are and feel beautiful, rather than to try and make us look like someone else.

And besides the education and mingling, it was a totally cute party! Which I always appreciate. How fun are the lip cookies.

The other finishing touch is some beautiful bling! (Speaking of selfies).

I have to admit, I was a little more than a little flattered, when I got the email from Rocksbox asking me to be one of their “It Girls.” (That sounds really important, doesn’t it? And even more excited when I realized I would get to wear their beautiful jewelry and share it with you.

Rocksbox is a jewelry rental subscription, kind of like Netflix for jewelry. Of course, you have the option to buy the pieces and can earn credit toward that, but I think the rental idea is kind of brilliant for people like me who love having something new to wear and also seriously need to declutter. It’s the fashionista’s answer to jewelry hoarding. Rocksbox sends you three pieces of jewelry to enjoy at a time based on your wishlist and style survey. I’m on my second set and have loved everything they have sent so far. These are high quality designer pieces including designers like Kendra Scott, Perry Street, and Margaret Elizabeth. Those are some of my favorite designers, anyway. There are many more.

One thing I am enjoying is that although you can make specific requests, a stylist puts together your collection for you. I was interested in this necklace, but didn’t know how much I would love it. I probably would have selected another statement piece for myself, but I have been wearing this Gorjana necklace every day since I got shipment #2. It is helping me better define my style to see what I love with each shipment.

If you want to play dress up too, you can try Rocksbox for a month for free! It’s so fun! Use code: kendrascreationsxoxo

Whether it comes from getting in shape, changing your hairstyling, or adding some pretty makeup or jewelry sparkle, I think the best makeover you can give yourself is a dose of confidence and the belief that you are worth investing in, whether it is an investment of time or money. I’m loving feeling a bit more put together as I embark on some new adventures (more on that soon). What do you do to put a sparkle back in your eye?
