Are any of you as overwhelmed as I already am? And it isn’t even December, yet. With so much to do each day, meal prep often gets pushed to the bottom of my list. To top it off, I’ve been trying to start a new eating plan (a.k.a diet). (Who does that right before Thanksgiving?)
So when I was approached to sample some of the new line of Healthy Choice Top Chef Cafe Steamers, I couldn’t resist. They were going to send me food I didn’t have to think about preparing, after all.
The thing that I think is really neat and innovative about this line of meals is their steaming bowls that allow for crisp vegetables, pasta al dente, etc. as it steams the food separately from the sauce.
This is what the bowl looks like out of the microwave.
Then you dump the veggies, meat, etc. into the bowl with the sauce. Here you can see the bowl where they are steamed.
I tried this Chicken Linguini with Red Pepper Alfredo and it was quite yummy. The chicken didn’t taste like it was part of a frozen meal. The sauce was really flavorful! I think part of the reason is that these meals in this line are inspired by Bravo’s Top Chef.
Some of the other yummy sounding varieties include:
Barbeque Seasoned Steak with Red Potatoes
Chicken Fresca with Chardonnay
Chicken Linguini with Red Pepper Alfredo
Chicken Margherita with Balsamic
Grilled Chicken Marinara with Parmesan
Grilled Chicken Pesto with Vegetables
Grilled Vegetables Mediterranean with Rice
Roasted Chicken Marsala with Mushrooms
Over all, I thought these were quite good. They seem to be more fresh and like “real food” than most microwave meals I’ve tried. Ideally, I’d love to be eating freshly prepared food every meal, but in the real world, I haven’t figured out how to make that happen. In the meantime, it’s nice to have a few convenient options that actually taste good and are more balanced and better for your health than a trip through the drive through.
