Do you remember the days of cake walks, bobbing for apples, and old-fashioned carnival -type games on Halloween? We do and wanted to give our kids a taste of what a simple family Halloween party was like back in the day, so we threw a simple but fun Old-Fashioned Family Halloween party. I am excited to share it with you as part of the HALLOWEEN BASH BLOG HOP.
This week some of my talented blogging friends are teaming up to bring you over 110 fabulous Halloween ideas–from costumes to parties, crafts and home decor, recipes and free printables! I guarantee you’ll find a project (or 10!) that you would love to incorporate into your Halloween festivities this year. All week (Monday through Saturday) we will be sharing our fun creations with all of you. Each day will include approximately 20 Halloween projects and you can “hop” from one blog to another to check them all out. But first, check out our fun party!
Decorations were in the traditional orange, black and white color scheme. I found the cute garland at Target and made the cat decorations from this template by Martha Stewart. I have had the bats cut out of poster board for years. They just fly around to different parts of my house. I also found the balloons with jack-o-lantern faces on them at Target, but they could also be DIYed with orange balloons and black vinyl. I had many more idea than time for this party, so if you may want to check out my Pinterest Board for lots more decorating ideas and vintage printables.
Like the amazing ones I used for cupcake picks by Johanna Parker Designs. A Some fluffy frosting on a cupcake makes a perfect collar for these vintage animals. Of course, we had to have lots more food for our growing ghouls and boys. We served mummy dogs and chips. You can see the cheesestick witches fingers here. Milk in glass bottles becomes instant ghost, with just a black Sharpie to draw on a little face. NOTE: You should be able to get the Sharpie off, if you desire, either just in the dishwasher, or with acetone nail polish remover.
But the part that made it feel old-fashioned were the fun DIY games. We had to bob for apples (Is there anyway that that can be sanitary??), eat donuts off of a string, and play pumpkin ring toss and more. Our dear friends that came to the party brought a homemade piñata full of goodies for all of the kids. We also did the traditional Cake Walk –or rather Cupcake Walk (so it is individually sized), using this printable by Paging Supermom.
