Political Parties

This election year I am voting for…
FUN!
(Ha! I bet you thought I was going to get all political on you!)

It isn’t going to happen this year, as we are all a little partied out, but I have always thought it would be cool to have an election night party. If you are having one, here are some fun ideas, if not you still might want to do a little something with the kids–kind of a fun way to teach them about democracy.

First of go to Plum Party where they have the best election night party goods. Like these fun napkins:

Make sure and watch the video from the Today Show at Plum Party for lots of great ideas.

There are also fun party supplies here. I especially like this capitalist piggy bank.

But there are some great ideas available for download for FREE!
Didn’t get enough of pumpkin carving at Halloween? Make some of these:
I’m going to have to do these with the kids. I think they will get a big kick out of them.
I thought it would be fun for a party to have a giant map on the wall and post pre-cut state shapes (red or blue) as the election results come in.
Simplifying that thought…you could use these fun placemats from plum party, and mark the states bingo-style with red and blue m&ms. Although, I don’t think those will last with my kids.
I think I’m going to print out coloring sheets like this one. And have them color in the states red or blue (geography and civics lesson in one.)
If you mix it up with fun food, they’ll never know they are actually learning something.
The cookies are spectacular, but not as amazing as the goodies at the top of the post both from Eleni’s New York (via swanky tables) . I also like the creative menu ideas from Yum Sugar.
What ever you do, have fun on election day and VOTE! (Going now to figure out who and what I am voting for.)
